In 1905, Susanna Bransford Emery-Holmes—known as the Silver Queen thanks to the source of her late husband’s fortune—purchased the home and soon made it her own. The stairs that connect the various levels of the home feature the same wide oak on the treads as the flooring, and black handrails tie in with the black door hardware. I am so happy we chose CALI ADU to design and build our garage ADU. Charlie Melvin is exactly as easy to work with as he seems when you first meet him. He was efficient, communicative and provided us with great blueprints for our garage conversion.

It is hard to see in the pictures, but the gables on each end of the cabin have white Vinyl Cedar Cove Shingles. We blew insulation into the roof before capping it with metal roofing. It has a modern farmhouse vibe and I could definitely see myself living here!

The designers worked with a color palette of Dunn-Edwards paints, and several chose to highlight the brand’s 2024 Color of the Year, a steely blue called Skipping Stones. Others focused on bringing the beauty of the estate’s gardens and views inside with verdant murals, floral fabrics, and nature-inspired lighting. You also want to make sure you have a place to prepare and serve meals. With 1,600 square feet, you can get a decent-sized kitchen, especially if you open it up to your living space. Using an open floorplan can help make both your living space and kitchen feel larger.
